ONDC for SME Sellers India —
Registration, Products & Strategy
ONDC is India's open digital commerce network — the UPI equivalent for e-commerce. Unlike Amazon or Flipkart, ONDC charges 1–3% instead of 5–40%, and your products appear across 20+ buyer apps from a single registration. Here's exactly how to get started as an SME seller.

Why ONDC Matters
ONDC vs Amazon vs Flipkart — What's Actually Different
ONDC is not just another marketplace — it is a fundamentally different model. Understanding the structural difference matters before you decide how much to invest in ONDC vs. traditional platforms.
| Dimension | ONDC | Amazon India | Flipkart |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commission structure | 1–3% buyer app fee; seller app fee 0.5–1.5% | 5–40% category commission + fulfilment fees | 5–35% category commission + weight handling |
| Who owns the customer | You do — buyer app collects order but seller controls fulfilment | Amazon owns customer relationship | Flipkart owns customer relationship |
| Returns & disputes | Standardised ONDC protocol; seller retains more control | Amazon-controlled; heavily buyer-favoured | Flipkart-controlled; similar to Amazon |
| Discovery mechanism | Any buyer app (Paytm, Meesho, Magicpin, etc.) can show your listing | Only Amazon platform | Only Flipkart platform |
| Seller onboarding | Via seller app (Mystore, eSamudaay, etc.); no direct Amazon/Flipkart approval needed | Brand registration + category approval (can take weeks–months) | Seller registration + category approval |
| SME advantage | Lower fees; multi-buyer-app exposure; government support | Large customer base; Prime advantage | Large customer base; Tier 2/3 city penetration |
Step-by-Step
How to Register as a Seller on ONDC — 6 Steps
Choose a Seller App (TSP)
ONDC does not have a direct seller registration portal. You onboard through an ONDC-registered Technology Service Provider (TSP) / Seller App. Options: Mystore, eSamudaay, Growthfalcon, Dukaan, Vistaar. Choose based on your category and geography.
Prepare Your Documents
GSTIN (mandatory), PAN, bank account details, FSSAI licence (food products), MSME registration (Udyam), product catalogue with images and descriptions, pickup address and fulfilment capability confirmation.
Complete KYC on Seller App
Submit documents on your chosen seller app. Verification typically takes 2–5 working days. You receive your ONDC Participant ID on completion.
Build Your Product Catalogue
Upload products with ONDC-compliant data: product name, HSN code, MRP, selling price, GST rate, images (minimum 4 per SKU), weight and dimensions for logistics, stock quantity.
Configure Logistics
Choose logistics provider: Dunzo, Shiprocket, Delhivery, or self-delivery for hyperlocal. Set serviceable pincodes, delivery time promise (SLA), and return policy.
Go Live and Test
Place test orders on a buyer app (Paytm, Magicpin). Verify the order flow: listing visible → order received → order confirmed → dispatch → delivery → payment settlement. Resolve any SLA or catalogue issues before marketing.
